THERESA HELENE LEFF SABEL, 91, of Tampa, formerly of Charleston, SC, died Nov. 27. She was a native of Hartsville, SC, where she graduated from Memminger High School and attended Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, where she first met her late husband Herman “Hymie” Sabel. She attended Coker College and graduated from the University of Georgia and later from Rice Business College. She was a longtime volunteer at the Brith Sholom Beth Israel synagogue and in Charleston’s Jewish community. She was president of the Sisterhood at the synagogue, during which time she persuaded the management at the Francis Marion Hotel to install a kosher kitchen. A Life Member of Hadassah, she was also fund-raising vice president. Survivors include her children, Sharon and Patrick McElmeel, Pompano Beach; and Diane Sabel, David Sabel and Harvey Sabel, all of Tampa; and two grandsons. The family suggests memorials to Hadassah.
