Movie night: The congregation will hold a Havdallah service on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the movie Denial. This is the movie version of Deborah Lipstadt’s libel trial in England. It’s a powerful, insightful film. Professor Lipstadt was a scholar-in-residence a number of years ago at Kol Ami.

Talking to your kids: Drop off your kids at religious school on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m., then come learn about opening a dialogue with children from 8 to 13 years old. This class is for grandparents as well as parents. It will begin with bagels and a schmear at 9 a.m., and the class will start at 9:45 a.m. Rabbi Bob Judd will conduct the class along with psychologists Andie Friedman and Mario Rodriquez. Topics to be discussed include what questions to ask your kids; techniques and strategies on how to ask your kids questions; solutions on how to answer questions your kids need to know and scenarios on conversations with your kids.

Book group: On Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., the book group will discuss Anna and The Swallow Man by Gavriel Savitt. All are welcome to join in the discussion, whether you have read the book or not. Debbie Doliner coordinates this group. RSVP to

Get to know her: As part of a continuing program for congregants to enjoy learning about the lives of fellow congregants, each month a congregant speaks before fellow congregants and talks about the experiences that have made them who they are today. On Sunday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to noon, Sandy Wainberg, will be the subject. A resident of Miami for 50 years before moving to Tampa, Wainberg taught in the first bilingual elementary school in Miami. She has lots of stories about growing up in South Florida, as well as stories since coming to Tampa.

L’Chaim: A class, “Sharing Life’s Lessons,” is offered on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon. Topics, readings and a different leader are chosen for each weekly session.

Rabbi’s lessons: Rabbi Judd leads classes on the Torah and Talmud. On Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon, the rabbi will present a discussion of the Torah’s parsha of the week. On Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., his class focuses on the first tractate of the Babylonian Talmud. For more information, call the synagogue office.

Yoga: Participate in a relaxing, morning yoga class with Dr. Tanya Gold on Sunday, Feb 19 from 10-11 a.m. The fee is $8 per class. Contact the Kol Ami office at (813) 962-6338 to sign up in advance or drop in on a Sunday morning.

Knitting time: The Sisterhood Needle Workers hold weekly knitting sessions on Tuesdays from 1:30 - 3 p.m. in the boardroom. Their creations are donated to the First Nesters, a group that provides housing for teens aging out of foster care. A special Sunday session has been scheduled for Sunday, March 5 at from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, call the synagogue.
