2 grants help boost TJFS food aid to eastern Hillsborough’s needy

Tampa Jewish Family Services (TJFS) was recently awarded a $10,000 Tau Grant from Allegany Franciscan Ministries. Tau grants are awarded to local organizations to support basic and emergency needs such as food and shelter.

TJFS was also the recipient of a $2,500 grant by BJ’s Charitable Foundation. The foundation supports organizations that assist the underprivileged in the areas of hunger prevention and education.

Both grants will be used to benefit families in need of food assistance in eastern Hillsborough County.

The TJFS Community Food Bank provides monthly, emergency and Jewish holiday food bag distributions, grocery store gift cards, and food for Jewish veterans.

“In the last 12 months, we distributed 7,340 bags of food to those in need,” says Michael Barnett, TJFS’ CEO.
