Food stamp cut brings spike in calls to TJFS

A $5 billion cut in the federal food stamp program on Nov. 1 had an immediate effect on Tampa Jewish Family Services (TJFS), as call volume by those in need of food and financial assistance increased at an alarming rate, said TJFS CEO Michael Barnett.  The cut in the food stamp program affects nearly 280,000 Hillsborough County residents – 5,000 of whom are TJFS clients.   More...
