to Lynn Marvin Dingfelder, a former WTVT and WTSP television reporter turned TV producer. Her original hour-long documentary titled JFK in Tampa: The 50th Anniversary aired at the Tampa Theatre on Nov. 7 and will be broadcast on WUSF-TV on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. On Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Tampa Bay History Center, there will be a panel discussion and a screening of the documentary in conjunction with the center’s month-long exhibit on Kennedy’s visit. Hosted by former Congressman Sam Gibbons, President Kennedy visited Tampa on Nov. 18, 1963, just four days before he was slain in Dallas. The first sitting president to come to Tampa, Kennedy landed at MacDill AFB and spoke at three venues. The president also enjoyed a 26 milemotorcade along “Grand Central Avenue” (now Kennedy Boulevard) and throughout the city where he was greeted by thousands. Dingfelder accumulated original footage of JFK from that day, in addition to stills and 8mm home movies and intertwined that with interviews from dozens of folks who were there, including former state Sen. Helen Gordon Davis, Tampa police motorcycle officers, secret service agents and “regular folks on the street.” For a full schedule of events in conjunction with the Kennedy visit anniversary, visit
