Which? convenience or inconvenience

Dear Editor:

I write this letter because of the article about the new show Princesses. I am not familiar with that show, but the word Ghetto hit me. The word and its meaning describes our Tampa Bay area.

In contrast our trips to Israel on our own, not with organized tours, gave us wonderful experiences. We as Jews can be vocal, argumentative, politically diverse, but always Jewish. The almost strange feeling of belonging was wonderful.

Now I bring you to the point of my letter.

I want to be part of the Jewish community and enjoy our holidays and be with my people. However I have no way of getting to any of the celebrations because of where I live. My neighbors are so good to me and I love them for that.

We have never asked for any help from the Jewish organizations. Except to help us get to celebrate. We are neither rich nor poor. But now (I) have been denied what I really need, that of being a Jew.

The Jews in this county are declining. Maybe because you consider people in my situation an inconvenience. In the many calls I have made in these past few years I have gotten the same answer, “Sorry you are out of our area, we cannot help you.”

So the word Ghetto is correct. The Jewish community has created a Ghetto. It is hard for me to believe I am the only Jewish person in the Bay Pines area.

All this makes me feel sad. The Jewish Press is my only connection to the Jewish community, thank you.

But, of course somehow I am remembered by mail by the many organizations for financial donations.

Mrs. Jack C. Slaten
