Lunch with the Professor: Brandeis National Committee is having a “Lunch with the Professor” on Feb. 27 at 11:30 a.m. at University Village, Tampa. Genealogical Society

Genealogical seminar: The Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay will conclude a two-part seminar to provide a foundation for beginners and an update for experienced researchers on Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater. Registration will be at 1:30 p.m. The seminar will focus on developing proper approaches and applying the necessary tools, techniques and short cuts to connect researchers with their ancestors. This seminar is an extensive revision of the presentation given two years ago by Dr. Emil H. Isaacson who has 28 years experience in genealogy. The course is free to current paid-up members. A one-year family membership will be included in the $25 course fee for non-members. An additional $10 fee will be charged for seminar materials per couple or family. Mah jongg tourney: The Chai Chapter of Hadassah will hold its sixth annual Mah Jongg Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 8:30 to 4 p.m. at Freedom Plaza, 1010 American Eagle Blvd., Sun City Center. The cost is $36 and includes breakfast, snacks and lunch. Prizes will be awarded and a silent auction will be held. To RSVP and for more information, call Carol at (813) 829-7227.

More mah jongg: The Tampa Ameet Chapter of Hadassah will hold a mah jongg tournament on Sun- day, March 18 at 8:45 a.m. at Aston Gardens, 12951 W. Linebaugh Ave. in Tampa. The event will include food and prizes. Cost is $36. To RSVP, call (813) 969-3454 or email by March 10.


Movie Days: Free showings of the film Tree of Life by Hava Volterra will be offered Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Tampa Jewish Community Center, 13009 Community Campus Drive, and Monday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at Jewish Center Towers, 3001 W. DeLeon St. Popcorn, candy and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Movies are free to members.

Blacks and Jews: The JetSetters North seniors group will meet on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tampa JCC. The topic for the meeting is “Blacks and Jews in America.” The group will watch a film about the history of the highs and lows of relationships between African-American and Jewish groups in America. A discussion will follow and a hot lunch will be provided provided. RSVP to Rachel Tilow at (813) 769-2809.

Horsing around: Seniors will travel by bus from the Jewish Center Towers and the JCC to Tampa Bay Downs for a day at the horse track on Thursday, March 1. The group departs from the Jewish Center Towers at 9:30 a.m. and from the JCC at 10:15 a.m. Cost is $10 and includes transportation and admission. Senior Book Group: This group will meet on Wednesday, March 7, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Tampa JCC to discuss the book Cuban Bread Crumbs by Tampa author Joe Espinosa. Those who need a copy of the book should visit Rachel Tilow’s office at the JCC.

Watercolor courses: The Tampa JCC, in conjunction with USF, is offering watercolor painting courses for seniors in the coming months. Beginning Watercolors will be offered Mondays, April 2 through May 21, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Intermediate to Advanced Watercolors will be offered Mondays, April 2 through May 21, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Class size is limited.
