Cong. Kol Ami

Scholar in Residence: Kol Ami is joining with the USF Library’s Holocaust Collection to present a Scholar in Residence, Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt, on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 24-26. Lipstadt is widely known for her studies of the Holocaust, with particular emphasis on Holocaust deniers as reflected in her book, History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier. The focus of the weekend will be on her most recent book, The Eichmann Trial.

On Friday, Feb. 24 at the Erev Shabbat service at 6 p.m. she will speak on “Jewish Ethics: A Pathway to Spirituality,” followed by Shabbat dinner at 7:30 p.m.

At the Saturday, Feb. 25 Shabbat service at 9:30 a.m. she will speak on “The New Anti-Semitism: How New? How Bad?” This will be followed by a luncheon.

On Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9:45 a.m. there will be a brunch and lecture on “The Eichman Trial.”

The lectures and Saturday luncheon are free. There are separate fees for the Shabbat dinner on Friday and the Sunday brunch. Contact the Kol Ami office to make reservations for the dinner and brunch.

Bim Bam Shabbat: Age-Appropriate services for children Pre- K to second grade will be held in the board room on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to stay with their children.

Junior Congregation: On Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m., children in third through seventh grades are invited to participate in a Junior Congregation service in the chapel. Older students (grades 6 and 7) are welcome to join this service or stay in the main sanctuary during the program. Parents are invited to stay with their children, or can drop them off at the appropriate time.

Family Shabbat: Parents are invited to learn with their children during Family Shabbat Services on Friday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. There will be family friendly melodies, stories and active involvement for kids and parents.

Purim carnival: A “Power- Packed Purim” will be offered on Sunday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a fun carnival atmosphere featuring a hot dog lunch, arts and crafts, fun games, cool prizes, popcorn, cotton candy and more. Tickets will be sold in advance or at the door. Contact the Kol Ami office for more information.

Meditation: Rabbi Robert Judd leads a class on the basics of Jewish meditation techniques every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel.

Wednesday Torah talk: Enjoy a morning of learning and study with Rabbi Robert Judd on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the boardroom.

Renew your spirit: “Finding the Sacred in our Lives” with Hazzan Jodi Sered-Lever is offered on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. in the boardroom. Renew your spirit by reading stories through a Jewish lens.
