Folksinger explores Jewish influence in American music

Jewish folksinger Lil Rev will provide two evenings of songs, stories, humor and instrumental magic at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center.

The Jews N Blues one-man shows will be Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 4-5, at the cultural center, 101 S. Pinellas Ave., Tarpon Springs

The show celebrates the Jewish contribution to American roots and blues music. From ragtime and jazz to rock and roll, Jews have made major creative contributions.

Lil Rev weaves a tale of Jews whose passion, persistence and creativity helped to paint the American popular landscape with a vocabulary of poetic lyric and melody. He will sing his own compositions, offer historical anecdotes and play a few choice covers and some blues instrumentals.

Born in Milwaukee, where he still resides, Lil Rev grew up in a musical family. He plays guitar, mandolin, banjo and ukulele. Besides his Jews N Blues show, he performs concerts highlighting the Jews of Tin Pan Alley and Yiddish Song.

The shows begin each night at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16, or $14 for cultural center members and students.
