Genealogical Society

Website assistance: The Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay will meet on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. to hear a presentation by Clint Elbow on how to effectively use the JewishGen website. This is the widely recognized home of Jewish genealogical research on the Internet. It is affiliated with the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York. With more than 400,000 users, JewishGen provides access to 20 million genealogical records, as well as links to hundreds of related websites. The program will include a hands-on session, supported by Elbow and experienced genealogists Bill Israel, and Emil Isaacson, to allow attendees to take JewishGen for a test drive. Participants should bring a laptop computer to this session. The meeting will be at Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater. Jewish Women International

Focus on fitness: Jewish Women International will kick off the new season Thursday, Sept. 20 with guest speaker Sharon Tanner, who will talk about “The 10 Most Common Excuses for Not Exercising.” The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the JCC Suncoast North Center, 2075 Sunnydale Blvd., Clearwater. Tanner will bring a personal trainer with her and have all the attendees participate in a short exercise routine and a relaxation meditation. A former preschool director and teacher in the Jewish community for 20 years, she has also taught yoga for children at a variety of preschools. When she retired from her early childhood career she managed a women’s fitness center in Trinity, then became manager and owner of Hers Fitness For Women. Support groups

Alzheimer’s caregivers: Menorah Manor’s Bresler Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Program offers a complimentary support group open to anyone in the community. This group meets in the Samson Nursing Center at Menorah Manor, 255 59th St. N., St. Petersburg, on the first Thursday of the month from 3:30-5 p.m. For more information, call Gwen Kaldenberg, MSW, director of the Bresler Program, at (727) 302-3750.

Weinberg Village plans financial planning workshop

Financial services expert Christine Cooper will present a financial planning workshop, “Will you outlive your money or will your money outlive you?” on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Weinberg Village.

The workshop will include Social Security updates and Medicare planning. Cooper has more than 30 years of experience as a financial advisor, speaker and workshop facilitator. Most recently, she was named Tampa Bay Woman of the Year in Financial Services.

The Weinberg Village assisted living facility is on the Maureen and Douglas Cohn Jewish Community Campus, 13005 Community Campus Drive, Tampa. The session is open to residents and the community. RSVP to Toby Zarolnick at (813) 769-2814.
