Tampa JCC senior programs offered now in both North and South Tampa

Tampa JCC programming targeted to seniors ha expanded to South Tampa this year.

A new senior yoga class is being offered at the Jewish Center Towers, 3001 W. DeLeon St.

Ongoing classes are on Wednesdays from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the activities center. Designed for those who prefer not to sit on the floor or need to use a chair for stability, participants will be led through easy yoga positions and stretches. The class is taught by certified instructor Jennifer Shipherd. There is no charge for JCC members; $4 per class for non-members.

The JCC currently offers other senior programs at the Maureen and Douglas Cohn Jewish Community Campus, 13009 Community Campus Drive, located near Citrus Park. Those programs include:

• JeTSetters, now in its fourth year, a program designed for independent seniors ages 65 and older to get together for socializing and learning.

Sponsored in conjunction with Tampa Jewish Family Services, JeTSsetters is offered twice a month on Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Activities include guest speakers, current event presentations, cultural and spiritual events, art classes, card games and computer lessons in the JCC’s new computer lab. There is no charge and lunch is provided, but advance reservations are required.

• Senior Network Day, a monthly program for seniors of all ages on the first Monday of the month,

• Senior trips,

• Silver Sneakers fitness program, in conjunction with certain Medicare insurance plans, offers a blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming for older adults.
