Sheriff’s Office awards TJFS food bank grant

Tampa Jewish Family Services food bank recently received a boost from the Hillsborough County Sheriff ’s Office when it awarded TJFS with a $1,000 community grant.

A ceremony was held July 21 at the Sheriff ’s Office to present TJFS CEO Michael Barnett with the grant award, which is to be used to purchase food.

TJFS offers food distribution once each month in both Citrus Park and Brandon, as well as emergency food bank distribution weekdays by appointment at each location.

Monthly distributions in Citrus Park will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 13 and Oct. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 4:30-6 p.m. at 13009 Community Campus Drive, off Gunn Highway.

In Brandon the monthly distributions will he held on Thursdays, Sept. 15 and Oct. 6, from 1-5 p.m. at Congregation Beth Shalom, 706 Bryan Road.

Each food bag contains a protein (tuna fish or peanut butter), canned vegetables, canned fruit, and starches (rice, pasta, cereal, or cookies). TJFS’ Citrus Park Food Bank provides bags of food to approximately 350 families each month, and will never turn away an individual or family in need.

Pick-up must be arranged in advance for monthly and emergency distribution by calling (813) 960-1848.
