TJFS expands counseling, food pantry into eastern county

Tampa Jewish Family Services will expand its food bank distribution and counseling services into the Brandon area beginning this month.

“There is a growing need for our services in east Hillsborough County and we’re very happy to be able to offer our services to people in this area,” said Michael Barnett, CEO of TJFS.

Food distribution will be offered once a month by appointment at Congregation Beth Shalom, 706 Bryan Road in Brandon.

Counseling will be provided by a licensed clinical social worker at the offices of Pathways Counseling Center, 108 Mason St., also in Brandon.

The TJFS counseling program accepts most insurance company benefits or, if need be, counseling sessions can be provided on a sliding-scale basis, with no one turned away due to an inability to pay.

TJFS was awarded a $10,000 grant by the Allegany Franciscan Tau Fund to help with the costs of this expansion. The coverage area for the Brandon counseling and food bank programs includes Plant City, Sun City Center, all of other parts of eastern Hillsborough County, New Tampa and Lakeland in Polk County.

Tampa Jewish Family Services is a 60- year-old nonprofit organization, serving households of all faiths. Along with counseling and the community food bank, TFJS offers senior services, an educational program for families with special needs and financial assistance and financial coaching.
