ID card of Israeli athlete killed in Munich returned

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The national identification card of wrestler Eliezer Halfin, one of 11 Israeli atheletes murdered during the 1972 Munich Olympics was returned to his family.

At a ceremony at the Foreign Ministry, Halfin’s sister accepted the card, which had been hidden for the nearly 40 years by a German police officer. The officer’s son turned it over to the Israeli Embassy after his father's death.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said hundreds of other documents are still missing.
