Brandeis

Bagels and book: The Brandeis National Committee will have a bagels and Brandeis event on Tuesday, March 8, at10 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center in Tampa. Adele McCollum will discuss A Good Fall by Ha Jim as part of the Brandeis University encore series. A light brunch will be served. Cost is $8.50. B’nai B’rith

Heroes of the Holocaust: The Greater Tampa Bay B’nai B’rith Unit 2603 will hold its next bagel and lox brunch on Sunday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at the JCC Suncoast North, 2075 Sunnydale Blvd., Clearwater. The meeting will feature a book signing and presentation by Bill Sefekar about a new book, Light: Faith and Courage, which he worked on with Cantor William Hauben. Revealed in the book, according to Cantor Hauben, is “one of the best kept secrets in history: The story of 10 countries who sacrificed their own safety and security to save the lives of Jews and others – heroes of the Holocaust.” The brunch will also feature a presentation of a program held in Washington D.C. to honor those countries and other special guests. Genealogical Society

Ancestry assistance: A program on “How to use Ancestry.com” will be presented by Barbara Smith, program chairperson of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay, on Sunday, March 13 at Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater. Smith will give a brief demonstration of Ancestry.com, followed by a hands-on workshop. A pre-program social with light refreshments and library access begins at 1:30 p.m. and the program starts at 2 p.m. Those attending will have an opportunity to work individually with an expert who will help with database searches. A limited number of computers will be available. Those with laptops should bring them. For more information or directions to the meeting, call Sally Israel at 727-343-1652.

Hadassah

Women’s roles: Guest speaker Dr. Rachel Silverman will speak on “How Jewish Women are Portrayed on TV Today” during the general meeting of the Ameet Chapter of Hadassah on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will at Aston Gardens, 12951 W. Singles

Wine and cheese tasting: The Ravak Schaarai Zedek Singles group will hold a wine and cheese tasting event at Whole Foods Market, 1548 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa on Thursday, March 31 from 7-9 p.m. A $5 minimum donation, to be paid at the event, is requested, with all proceeds donated to the Whole Planet Foundation, which helps the poor in countries which provide products to the company. The Ravak group is sponsored by Congregation Schaarai Zedek in Tampa, but you do not have to be a temple member to participate in its events. Support groups

Alzheimer’s caregivers: Menorah Manor’s Bresler Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Program offers a complimentary support group open to anyone in the community. This group meets in the Samson Nursing Center at Menorah Manor, 255 59th St. N., St. Petersburg, on the first Thursday of the month from 3:30-5 p.m. For more information, call Gwen Kaldenberg, MSW, director of the Bresler Program, at 727-302-3750.
