Tampa JCC to feature Wiesel, Axelrod in live simulcast from the 92nd St. Y in New York City

The Tampa JCC is inviting the public to tune in to a live simulcast featuring a panel of Nobel Prize winners, headed by Elie Wiesel, along with special guest, presidential advisor David Axelrod.

Part of the Live at the 92nd St. Y series by New York City’s famed Jewish Community Center, the simulcast will be shown at the Tampa JCC on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m.

The program is free and open to all. A dessert reception will follow.

On the panel are four Nobel laureates including Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, writer, teacher and peace activist who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Wiesel’s first book, Night, published in 1958, details his life in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Wiesel also has taught at numerous universities, including Eckerd College in St. Petersburg.

Other Nobel Prize recipients on the panel are Sheldon Lee Glashow (physics, 1979), Dr. Paul Greengard (physiology, 2000) and Edmund Phelps (economics, 2006).

The Live program is being held in conjunction with the “Conference of Nobel laureates,” sponsored by the 92nd St. Y in conjunction with the Elie Wiesel Foundation. Those attending the conference will hold private discussions on topics ranging from the Middle East to education to economic development, and will present its conclusions during the Live simulcast.

The Live program will also feature Axelrod, senior advisor to President Barack Obama, as a special guest. Axelrod, who has amassed more than 20 years in media strategy and communication, has worked with Obama since 2004, when the current president was a state senator in Illinois.
